Escrimis La Chapelle is located near the town of Condom, less than a two-hour drive from Bordeaux or Toulouse. It nestles amongst the unspoilt rolling hills of the Gers, a department in the Occitanie region of South West France.

The area is in the heart of the wine region of Gascogny, often referred to as the 'Tuscany of France'. The abundance of surrounding local vineyards and regular colourful markets ensure visitors can experience the flavours of the region.

Thought to have 13th century 'Templar' origins, the pretty limestone chapel at Escrimis is close to one of the historic pilgrimage routes 'The Camino de Santiago', also known as 'Le Chemin de Compostelle. The chapel would have provided a place of tranquillity and safety for weary pilgrims. It has recently undergone a sympathetic 18-month renovation by a team of skilled artisan craftsmen, bringing the building back to life and creating a truly inspirational setting for creative arts and artistic immersion.

The chapel interior provides a large comfortable space which is adaptable for a variety of uses. Through two stunning arch entrances and a deep arched window, light streams into the mellow stone interior. The idyllic surroundings of this area will tempt the artist to wander through the 14-acre estate of vineyard, garden, meadows and orchard, perhaps to work 'en plein air'.

An amazing array of historic medieval bastide villages, châteaux and picturesque riverside towns, plus a plethora of flora and fauna, provides the artist with plenty of inspiration.

A variety of tutored art and textile courses by well-known artists will be held during the Spring and Autumn. The chapel studio will also be available for art societies, photographic location and exhibitions
